PRACTICAL AS PAPER 3
Wednesday, October 8, 2008
Now we go on more detail in Paper 3..

- The paper consists of two or more questions
- The experimental skills tested will be on

1. Manipulation of apparatus
* successful collection of data and observations
* Nature of measurements or observations

2. Presentation of data
* recording data and observations
* display of calculations and reasoning
* data layout

3. Analysis and evaluation
* Interpretation of data or observations and identifying sorces of error
* Drawing conclusions
* Suggesting improvements

- There will be 2 versions of the paper
- Candidates take either paper31 and paper 32

OBSERVATION AND DRAWING
- often assessed through drawing, although tables of observations and comparisons may be used

EXPERIMENT

1. There need to be clear distinction between observations(results) and conclusions (deductions)
2. Observation and results are generally best presented in a table with ruled lines
3. The column headings should be included in the table if appropriate
4. Calculated values should be included in the table if appropriate
5. Conclusions and deductions are generally best presented in text

GOOD PRACTICE IN DRAWING RESULTS TABLE

1. Columns and rows should be clearly headed
2. Draw columns and rows using a ruler
3. Put units in headings not in the cells within the table
4. Numerical results should all be recorded to the same number of decimal palces eg : 17.1,19.0 not 17.1,19

GOOD PRACTICE IN GRAPH DRAWING

1. The type of graph should be appropriate for the data being displayed
2. The independent variable is on the x axis the the dependent variable on the y-axis
3. Scales are chosen to make best use the space available
4. Scales need not begin at 0
5. It should be easy to plot intermediate numbers - i.e scales should go up in 2s, 5s, or 10s and not in 3s, 7s
6. Scales should be fully labelled with units
7. Points should be plotted as crosses
8. Line should be ruiled from point to point, or best fit...this one u all hav to refer back to what kind of experiment/questions.

GOOD PRACTICE IN DRAWING SPECIMENS

1. Lines should be clear and single
2. Proportions should be correct
3. A good level of detail should be shown
4. Low power plans do not show individual cells
5. High power drawings show detail of two or three cells
6. label lines should be drawn with ruler and touch the part being labelled - no arrowheads
7. in general, a scale or magnification should be given

so, practice all this tips...at least u hav a better view in answering and SCORINg paper3..

see u again

Regards
Sir amierul (SR 1)
